Neil Hannon / The Divine Comedy

In my opinion, Neil Hannon is one of the UK’s finest living songwriters… I would go so far to say that the man is a National Treasure… I’ve seen him in concert twice and will be going to see him again the next time he comes to Manchester.

As my blog site is about Blues music then it’s fair to say that some of you may not know about Neil Hannon – his music certainly isn’t Blues, but you’ve probably heard of the famous Irish TV comedy series called ‘Father Ted’ from the ’90s – Neil wrote the theme tune.

The mischievous humour of his lyrics combined with the fun of his songwriting make his music quintessentially English – even though he’s a Irishman. He’s also a playwright… I’ve read articles suggesting musical similarities to Noel Coward (who was just before my time), and Noel Coward is a God. Keep up the splendid work Neil!

Here’s my tab of “A Lady of a Certain Age” – one of my favourite Divine Comedy songs https://learnblues.wordpress.com/2011/12/03/a-lady-of-a-certain-age-tab-divine-comedy-neil-hannon/
